Oregon trainers are made with Sorona® - a biopolymer derived from residues in corn production - thus reducing the pressure on fossil fuels. It can also be recycled together with polyester. The composition of the sole includes algae, saving a significant amount of water and energy in production. This algae is classed as 'recycled'. When algae grows rapidly, it has an adverse effect on ecosystems, so it's gathered when waterways are being cleaned. Rather than being seen as waste, the algae is collected to be converted into a component of the sole.
